Lewisham Local’s Food ‘n Fun in the Fields returns on August 7

July 16, 2022

Yes, after a 3-year pause for the pandemic, Food ‘n’ Fun in the Fields returns to Ladywell Fields, North Field on Sunday 7 August from 12 noon to 6 pm, run by Lewisham Local with the support of Lewisham Council.

Aside from a wide range of pop-up food, commercial, community and charity stalls, and a fun fair, there’ll be live performances from Julie Tsiricos, the SMUG Ukulele Band featuring Feeling The Noise, Jijomaro, Goldskool, and the Rushey Green Time Bank Community Choir, with poetry from Pete Webb and pals.

As if that wasn’t enough, there’ll be free donkey rides, a free static falconry display, an urban bee keeping exhibit, and the chance to get your wheels checked out by Dr Bike.

Always a favourite, the London Fire Brigade will be calling by to offer you a chance to check out one of their engines up close.

Three more of our favourites are also back, with the Children’s Themed Drawing Competition, the Community Cake Challenge, and the Treasure Hunt, all with attractive prizes to be won!

Last but not least, why not try your luck in our raffle on the day, with some very attractive prizes donated by local businesses and residents?

Come along and support your community in this, our year as London Borough of Culture.  We Are Lewisham!

Popular acts

Lewisham Local are proud to welcome several popular acts to Food ‘n’ Fun in the Fields. There will be Julie Tsiricos, singer-songwriter and the first of several Rushey Green Time Bank members, followed by: SMUG, a local ukulele group, accompanied by visually impaired musicians Feeling The Noise; Local favourites Goldskool, who’ll be showcasing a set at the Ninth Life on the evening of August 4 (see and listen to an example of their work at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9MjP72KLuUo and sysad.org/u/Goldskool; Jijomaro, a superb busking band renowned for their pop-up performances at, amongst other places, Arnold Circus in E2; The RGTB Community Choir; and Pete Webb, local poet and RGTB member, with some original work for the event.
It’s the festival that keeps on giving!

Cake challenge

Our Community Cake Challenge will be back at Food ‘n’ Fun in the Fields on 7 August in Ladywell Fields, North Field. Entries will be accepted on the day between 1pm and 3pm and may be made with traditional ingredients, sugar-free, gluten-free, or vegan – it’s as simple as that! Judging will take place between 3.30 and 4.30pm, and the prizes for Best In Show and Runner-up announced from the stage at 4.45pm.

Drawing competition

This year’s Children’s Drawing Competition will be themed: “We are Lewisham!” But what does that mean to your kids? If they’re stuck for inspiration, why not direct them to www.wearelewisham.com/about? There’ll be an artistically-themed prize for the best entry in the Over 12’s category, and similarly, for the Under 12’s. There will be a gazebo where  participants can bring their entries or work 12 and 3pm. This will be combined with a T-Shirt design workshop. Children will be able to complete and print their design over the following weeks at Lewisham Local, PLACE/Ladywell.

I can’t wait for fun ‘n’ food in the fields! I’ve been waiting to reclaim my crown in the cake competition! Last time I came 2nd to a 12 year old I helped make her cake entry!!!!! If you ever do a kids version I’d love to be a judge!
